Dickson Prize in Science

About this program

Carnegie Mellon University administers the annual Dickson Prize in Science, endowed by Dr. Joseph Z. Dickson and Agnes Fischer Dickson, to recognize the individual judged to have made the most significant progress in the scientific fields in the United States during the year. At CMU the award covers the natural sciences, engineering, computer science, and mathematics and has been conferred since 1970. Eligible candidates must have done the bulk of their work in the United States, selection is made solely by representatives of the two Dickson-affiliated universities, and the will specifies the prize should not be awarded exclusively to a graduate or affiliate of either institution.
