Dominick Argento Fellowship for Opera Composition

About this program

The National Opera Association offers the Dominick Argento Fellowship for Opera Composition to support an outstanding composer pursuing graduate study in composition at a U.S.-accredited institution. The fellowship covers unmet tuition, fees, and living expenses up to $50,000 annually, for up to two years for a master’s degree or three years for a doctoral degree. Applicants must have completed or be completing an appropriate undergraduate program, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, enroll in an eligible graduate composition program, and demonstrate at least $5,000 in annual unmet financial need. Applications are due October 1, 2026, and must include approximately 10 minutes of original vocal or opera-related music with matching scores.
