Donald J. Sterling, Jr. Fellowships in Pacific Northwest History

About this program

The Oregon Historical Society, through the Donald J. Sterling, Jr. endowment, offers two annual fellowships in Pacific Northwest history— a Senior Fellowship ($2,500) open to all and a Graduate Research Fellowship ($2,000) for advanced-degree candidates—to support original scholarly and interpretive research in OHS’s Portland research library. Fellows undertake four weeks’ residency in the library during the calendar year following the award and must submit a 500–750 word report within one month of the fellowship and an article-length manuscript for possible publication in the Oregon Historical Quarterly by the end of that year. Applicants must be U.S. residents with demonstrated experience in historical research and writing (professional historian status not required); preference is given to projects likely to make significant contributions to Oregon and Pacific Northwest scholarship and to produce an OHQ-length article.
