Ellen and Charles Steinmetz Endowment for Archaeology

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America offers two Steinmetz Endowment for Archaeology awards of up to $8,500 for innovative archaeological research using technology to investigate important questions about the human past; projects may involve fieldwork or laboratory research and may address any location or period. Priority is given to new projects by archaeologists within eight years of receiving their PhD. Applicants must be AIA graduate-student or professional members, hold a PhD in archaeology or a related field, and generally have an academic affiliation; required permits must be secured before funds are disbursed. Applications are due November 1, 2026.
