Emily Winfree Fellowship for African and African American History in Virginia

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture offers the Emily Winfree Fellowship to support research and interpretation of African and African American history in Virginia through access to its extensive collections. The fellowship provides an $8,000 stipend for at least six weeks in residence at the VMHC, with recipients required to participate in a colloquium, deliver a public presentation, and submit a research abstract after completion. Doctoral candidates and independent researchers are eligible; undergraduates, master’s students, and graduate students not yet admitted to Ph.D. candidacy are not eligible. Applications, including a cover letter, résumé, project description, and two recommendation letters, are due October 30, 2026.
