ESCMID Individual Research Grants (alternating themes; 2027: Fungal/Parasitic/Viral Infections)

About this program

The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) funds Individual Research Grants for early-career investigators in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, with the 2027 thematic focus on fungal, parasitic and viral infections; awards of up to €20,000 may support entire projects or specific project elements (50% paid to the grantee’s institution on signing, 50% on approval of final reports). Applications must be submitted as a single PDF containing an abstract, background, objectives, purpose/impact, detailed research plan and budget, current research description, CV, publication list, two signed letters of support, suggested reviewers and a publication-quality photo; projects typically run 12–24 months and grantees must provide financial and scientific reports within six months of completion and acknowledge ESCMID in publications. Eligible applicants must be the proposed project PI and hold ESCMID Young Scientist Membership (YSM) or ESCMID LMIC membership, or qualify under the Women in Science category (which does not require membership), and must have an MD/MBBS/PharmD, a PhD, or be actively enrolled in a PhD programme; applicants may not hold more than one ESCMID research grant concurrently, previous ESCMID grantees may only reapply after official project completion, and ESCMID Executive Committee members are ineligible.
