Experimental Physics Investigators Initiative

About this program

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Experimental Physics Investigators Initiative supports individual experimental physics researchers and their teams, including work in fields such as atomic, condensed matter, materials, biophysics, and quantum information physics. Funding is intended primarily for the principal investigator, research team, and experimental equipment. Applicants must conduct experimental physics research, have earned tenure or an equivalent within the past five years, and be employed by a U.S. nonprofit or public academic or research institution at submission. The pre-application deadline for the 2027 cohort is October 8, 2026, at 12 p.m. Pacific Time; applicants eligible for the Foundation’s concurrent quantum systems competition may apply to only one.
