Fellowships for Americans in the Nordic Countries

About this program

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF), a nonprofit promoting U.S.–Nordic educational and cultural exchange, offers fellowships for research and creative-arts projects in Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sápmi, and Sweden. Awards provide up to $23,000 for year-long projects or $5,000 for one- to three-month projects, with priority given to graduate students conducting dissertation-related research; applications are due November 1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have completed undergraduate education before the project begins and must propose a well-defined, full-time project requiring residence in the Nordic region. Applicants must independently secure an institutional or professional affiliation, submit three recommendations and required ethical documentation, and demonstrate relevant Nordic-language proficiency when the project requires it.
