Fields Research Fellowship

About this program

Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences offers the Fields Research Fellowship to support 1–3 months of full‑time research in residence at the Institute or in collaboration with a faculty member at a Fields Principal Sponsoring University/Institution, providing office space, access to Fields facilities and activities, and a living allowance up to CAD 4,000 per month. Faculty/research scientists at Principal Sponsoring Universities/Institutions may apply for themselves (e.g., during a research leave) or nominate a visiting mathematical scientist; applicants based in the Greater Toronto Area are ineligible to hold the fellowship. Applications are submitted via the online Fields Research Fellow Application Form and must include a cover letter, short research proposal and CV (for nominations include a letter explaining the collaborator’s role and the collaborator’s CV); materials should be submitted at least three months before the proposed start and meet annual deadlines (Jan 15, May 15, Sep 15). Selection is made by the Institute Directors in consultation with the Scientific Advisory Panel; there are no nationality restrictions and Fields encourages applications from women and under‑represented groups.
