Fishel-Calhoun Article Prize

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) awards the Fishel-Calhoun Article Prize biennially for the best article on any aspect of U.S. history from 1865 to 1917. The winner receives a certificate and honorarium and is recognized at the annual SHGAPE luncheon. Eligible applicants are graduate students or PhDs within six years of receiving their doctorate who have not yet published a book; articles must have appeared between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026. Submit the article as a PDF to the prize committee chair by October 31, 2026, with “SHGAPE Fishel-Calhoun Prize” in the email subject line.
