About this program
The American Philosophical Society offers Franklin Research Grants of up to $7,000 for noncommercial research expenses, including travel to libraries and archives, research materials, fieldwork, and laboratory work. Applications are due October 1 or December 1, 2026, with awards supporting work beginning in February or April 2027, respectively. Applicants must hold a doctorate or have published work of doctoral character and quality; Ph.D. candidates are ineligible, though independent scholars and faculty at two- and four-year institutions may apply. Applicants must submit a project proposal, budget, and two letters of support, and must meet U.S. citizenship/residency or research-location requirements.
