FY 2027-28 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant

About this program

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) offers FY 2027–28 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grants to fund multimodal transportation and land-use planning projects that advance regional transportation plans, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and address regional, interregional, or statewide transportation needs. Awards range from $50,000 to $700,000, with projects funded through state SB 1 and State Highway Account funds or federal transportation planning programs; applications are due October 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

Eligible applicants include public agencies and tribal governments, and proposed planning activities must have a direct transportation nexus. Local matching requirements vary by grant category, generally ranging from 11.47% to 20%; tribal governments are exempt from the match for Sustainable Communities grants.
