Gillian Thornley Award

About this program

Established in 2020 by the New Zealand Mathematical Society, the Gillian Thornley Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the cause or profession of mathematics in New Zealand and may be awarded to an individual or group for activities such as teaching, research leadership, outreach, government engagement, promoting diversity, service to professional societies, mentoring, or public communication. Nominations must include a joint statement of support (max 1 page) from two nominators who are current NZMS members, a brief CV (max 3 pages) detailing name, affiliation, professional experience, awards and a summary of relevant activities, and up to three pages of additional supporting information; if nominating multiple people, provide CVs for two nominees. Nominations should be emailed to NZMS President Bernd Krauskopf, clearly marked for the Gillian Thornley Award, and are due by 31 August 2026; nominees need not be NZMS members.
