About this program

The Kellogg Institute for International Studies offers Graduate Research Grants of up to $10,000 to support overseas, or appropriately U.S.-based, research in international studies related to its core democracy priority. Funds may cover travel, research materials, and other justified research expenses, particularly for exploratory work or gaps in dissertation funding; 2026–27 deadlines are October 13, 2026, and February 23, 2027. Applicants must be doctoral student affiliates in good standing at the University of Notre Dame and submit a research proposal, budget, CV, transcript, bibliography, and two faculty recommendations, including at least one Kellogg faculty fellow. Proposals should demonstrate international relevance, methodological quality, engagement with democracy research, and potential for future external funding; prior grant recipients are considered only for substantially different or advancing projects.
