H. Wayne Morgan Book Prize

About this program

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) awards the H. Wayne Morgan Book Prize in odd-numbered years for the best book on U.S. political history during 1865–1920s. The winner receives a certificate and honorarium and is recognized at the annual SHGAPE luncheon at the Organization of American Historians. Eligible books must be written in English and published within the previous two years; edited volumes and collections are ineligible, though English translations may qualify. Authors or publishers must submit a copy to each prize committee member by postmark deadline October 15, 2026; final page proofs may be submitted for books published October–December 2026, with bound copies due in January.
