Fellowship in History of Art and Visual Culture

About this program

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s History of Art and Visual Culture Fellowship supports independent research using the Museum’s collections and resources, with fellows collaborating with curatorial departments and Museum staff during the September 2027–August 2028 term. Junior fellows receive a $53,000 stipend and senior fellows $63,000, plus $6,000 for research travel and health-insurance support. Applicants must be PhD candidates who have defended their dissertation proposal or hold a PhD/are established scholars; international applicants may apply with valid U.S. work authorization. Applications, including a proposal, work and travel schedules, CV, three recommendations, and transcripts for junior applicants, are due October 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. ET.
