Houghton Library Visiting Fellowships

About this program

Harvard Library’s Houghton Library offers Visiting Fellowships for scholars pursuing projects requiring in-depth research in its rare book, manuscript, and performing arts collections, with access to library resources, staff expertise, and Harvard’s intellectual community. Fellows receive a $4,500 stipend and must complete four weeks of residence at Houghton between July 2027 and June 2028. Applicants aged 18 or older may be doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, independent researchers, curators, or library, archive, and museum professionals of any nationality; those living within commuting distance are generally ineligible. Applications are due January 15, 2027, and must include a project proposal, a preliminary list of relevant Houghton materials, a CV, and one reference letter.
