About this program

The V Foundation’s V Scholar Cancer Research Award provides early-career funding (one award listed at $800,000) for laboratory-based fundamental or translational adult cancer projects intended to enable junior faculty to secure R01-equivalent support. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, typically have at least two years of postdoctoral training (one year acceptable for some MD subspecialties), and hold an Assistant Staff appointment no earlier than April 26, 2021; clinical investigators must also have dedicated laboratory space, protected research time, and institutional start-up funds. Candidates may not have an R01 by April 26, 2024, nor have accepted a single non-mentored peer-reviewed grant ≥ $750,000 (direct costs) or aggregated non-mentored funding > $1,000,000 (direct costs); this is a limited submission requiring nomination by the institution’s Office of Research Development (internal InfoReady nomination due March 30, 2026; V Foundation deadline anticipated July 1, 2026).
