International Exploration Grants

About this program

The National Speleological Society (NSS) offers International Exploration Grants to support international expeditions focused on cave exploration, surveying, documentation, and photodocumentation. Applications are accepted by email during October 30–November 30 and April 30–May 31, and should include project objectives, expedition details, permits, personnel, an itemized budget, and other funding sources. Proposals are evaluated based on NSS participation, expedition complexity and feasibility, applicant experience, budget reasonableness, permits, local collaboration, and plans to share results with in-country land managers. Expeditions involving international cooperation are encouraged, and any NSS committee member involved in a proposal may not apply or participate in its review.
