The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) awards the J. James R. Croes Medal annually to the author(s) of a paper judged next in merit to the Norman Medal, recognizing significant contributions to engineering science. The award consists of a medal for the lead author and certificates for coauthors. There is no direct nomination process; eligible papers are those submitted for the Norman Medal but not selected, under the Norman Medal’s rules, with nominations due October 1. Papers previously not selected for either the Croes or Norman Medal are ineligible for renomination.
