John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America offers the John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship, providing up to $12,000 for dissertation-related travel and study in Italy, the western Mediterranean, or North Africa between July 1 and June 30; field excavation and indirect costs are not eligible. Applicants must be current AIA Graduate or Professional members conducting dissertation research in a U.S. graduate program. Applications, including references and transcripts, are due November 1, 2026, and recipients must submit a fellowship report and an abstract for consideration at an AIA Annual Meeting within two years.
