John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America offers the John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship—awarding up to $12,000 to support travel and study in Italy, the western Mediterranean, or North Africa between July 1 and the following June 30 to advance dissertation research (funds may not support field excavation, institutional overhead, or indirect costs). Applicants must be current AIA members at the Graduate or Professional level and enrolled in a U.S. graduate program conducting dissertation research; recipients must remain AIA members through the fellowship term. At the conclusion of the tenure the recipient must submit a report on fund use and, within two years, submit an abstract for consideration to present at the AIA Annual Meeting. Complete application materials, including references and transcripts, must be received by the AIA by November 1 (awards announced by March 1).
