Jonathan Larson Grants

About this program

Administered by the American Theatre Wing and sustained by the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation and the Larson family, the Jonathan Larson Grants provide unrestricted annual financial support to emerging musical-theatre writers—composers, lyricists, librettists, or writing teams—with select recording grants supported by the Saw Island Foundation. Applicants must be professional musical-theatre writers working and residing/working in the U.S. at least part‑time (U.S. citizenship not required), teams may include up to three regular collaborators, and prior Jonathan Larson Grant recipients are ineligible. Applications are submitted via the online portal by September 4, 2026, and must include an artistic statement, creative CV(s), a comprehensive work‑sample list, and corresponding audio/lyric files for composers/lyricists (3–6 songs with context) or a one‑act libretto/excerpt (≤60 pages) for librettists; adaptations require proof of rights.
