About this program
The Archaeological Institute of America offers the Julie Herzig Desnick Endowment for Archaeological Field Surveys, providing up to $4,500 for innovative projects that initiate ground-based archaeological surveys, geophysical surveys, or combined field survey and remote-sensing work worldwide. Proposals should address significant questions about the human past and preferably come from archaeologists within eight years of receiving their PhD. Applicants must be AIA graduate student or professional members with a PhD in archaeology or a related field and an academic affiliation, and must hold or obtain the necessary research permit. Applications are due November 1, 2026; awardees must submit a final report and are encouraged to present their work at the AIA Annual Meeting.
