About this program

The Simons Foundation’s Simons Society of Fellows invites nominations for Junior Fellowships that support outstanding early-career scientists to conduct independent research at a New York City educational institution for up to three years, providing a 2027/28 stipend of $102,799 (with annual 3% increases), fringe benefits, a $10,000 research allowance, and 20% indirect costs to the host. Candidates must conduct research in mathematics, computer/information science, life sciences, or physical and engineering sciences and must have earned a Ph.D. no earlier than May 2025 and no later than August 2027; fellowships cannot be held concurrently with another fellowship or a tenure‑track appointment and require residence in NYC during the academic year. Nominations are submitted via the Simons Award Manager by a tenured/equivalent nominator (not the nominee) and must include a separate recommender and an NYC-based mentor; nominees must be available for in-person interviews on specified dates between October 7 and November 11, 2026. Nomination deadline is September 10, 2026 at 12 p.m. (noon) Eastern, with notifications by December 31, 2026.
