Kalman Prize for Best Paper

About this program

The New Zealand Mathematical Society (NZMS), with funding from the Margaret and John Kalman Charitable Trust, awards the Kalman Prize for Best Paper (NZ$5,000) for an outstanding single original research publication (article, monograph or book) published within the five-year eligibility window 2021–2026. The prize is decided solely on the merit of the publication by a judging panel appointed by the NZMS President and winners are announced at the New Zealand Mathematics Colloquium. Nominations must be submitted by an NZMS member who is not an author by email to the NZMS President (Bernd Krauskopf) by 31 August 2026 and must include a 1–2 page summary of the work, an electronic copy (PDF) of the publication, and the names of six potential assessors. Eligible nominated publications must have at least one author who was a current NZMS member in the publication year and is a New Zealand resident using a New Zealand address in the publication; the prize may be shared among eligible authors.
