About this program
The Texas State Historical Association offers the annual Kate Broocks Bates Award for Historical Research, honoring a significant book-length work on Texas history with a $4,000 prize. Preference is given to research addressing the Republic of Texas or pre-Republic periods, although later history may be considered when relevant. Publishers must submit an entry form, individual nomination form, and four copies of books published and copyrighted in 2025 or 2026 by November 15, 2026; books published after October 1 may be submitted through December 1. The winning author must attend the TSHA Annual Meeting to receive the award.
