Leonard A. Lauder Fellowship in Modern Art

About this program

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art offers predoctoral, postdoctoral, mid-career, and non-residential doctoral dissertation completion fellowships for focused research on modern art, with stipends of $50,000–$70,000, a $6,000 travel allowance, and health-insurance support. Fellowships support projects addressing modern art in any region or culture from the late nineteenth century through the 1960s and encourage work across art history and related humanities disciplines. Applicants must be enrolled doctoral students, have received a PhD within seven years, or be established scholars with a commensurate publication record, depending on the fellowship; applicants may be affiliated with any accredited international university and must have appropriate U.S. work authorization. Applications, including a research proposal, bibliography, personal statement, CV, transcripts where applicable, and three recommendations, are due October 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. ET.
