Leonard A. Lauder Non-Residential Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship in Modern Art

About this program

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art offers a one-year Non-Residential Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship for focused research and dissertation completion in modern art, providing a $30,000 stipend for September 2027–August 2028. Fellows participate virtually in Research Center activities and may receive travel and accommodations for an optional visit to the Museum. Applicants may be PhD students from any country who are in the final writing stages of a dissertation on modern art from the late nineteenth century through the 1960s, are not conducting primary research, and live outside daily commuting distance of the Museum. Applications must be submitted in English by October 15, 2026, and include a project description, completion plan, sample chapter, CV, transcripts, and three academic recommendations, including one from the dissertation supervisor.
