Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship (Vocation of the Theological Educator Initiative)

About this program

The Louisville Institute offers Postdoctoral Fellowships providing $75,000 (USD) per year to early-career theological educators for two-year visiting scholar placements at graduate theological schools, colleges, universities, or research organizations in the United States or Canada as part of its Vocation of the Theological Educator (VTE) initiative. Fellows participate in teaching, pastoral and faculty peer mentoring, and cohort VTE gatherings during the fellowship period (Fall 2027–Spring 2029; start date July 1, 2027), with awards announced in Spring 2027. Eligible applicants are scholars based in the U.S. or Canada who will complete all Ph.D./Th.D. work and receive their degrees no later than June 30, 2027, demonstrate appreciation for the Christian church and a commitment to theological education, and typically come from fields such as theology, pastoral studies, biblical studies, ethics, history, or related interdisciplinary areas. Applications (essay, doctoral transcript, CV, and two letters of recommendation) are submitted online; the portal opens June 1, 2026, and completed applications are due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on October 1, 2026 (letters due October 8, 2026).
