About this program
Maine Sea Grant at the University of Maine offers Program Development awards of typically $1,000–$5,000 for up to 12 months to support pilot projects, proof-of-concept activities, and other initiatives advancing its strategic goals in research, extension, education, and outreach. Projects should demonstrate innovation, measurable benefits to Maine, partnership or leveraging potential, and a pathway toward larger funding; PI salaries and indirect costs are not allowable. Applicants may be affiliated with Maine-based academic, educational, research, governmental, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations, but must share results publicly and comply with NOAA data-sharing policies. Applications are due September 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. through InfoReady and require a three-page narrative, CVs, budget and justification, outreach and evaluation plans, and a NEPA questionnaire and applicable permits for field-based work.
