About this program
The Maryland Innovation Initiative, a collaboration between TEDCO, the State of Maryland, and five qualifying universities, supports commercialization of university-developed technologies through validation, market assessment, and company formation. Funding totals up to $430,000, including up to $130,000 ($180,000 for joint applications) for a nine-month Technology Assessment phase and up to $300,000 for Company Formation. Full-time faculty at Johns Hopkins, Morgan State, or the University of Maryland campuses may apply for Technology Assessment grants, while Maryland-based startups with recently licensed university technology may apply for Company Formation investments. Applicants must have university-owned technology disclosed to a technology transfer office with appropriate intellectual property protection, engage a Site Miner at least 30 days before submission, and apply by January 15, April 15, July 15, or October 15.
