About this program

The Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), a collaboration between TEDCO, the State of Maryland, and five qualifying universities, supports commercialization of university-developed technologies through technology assessment and company formation. Funding totals up to $430,000, including up to $130,000–$180,000 for nine-month technology validation and market assessment and up to $300,000 for commercial launch. Full-time faculty at the five qualifying universities may apply for Technology Assessment grants, while Maryland-based startups that licensed qualifying university technology within the previous 12 months may apply for Company Formation investments. Applicants must have university-owned, disclosed, and appropriately protected intellectual property, engage a designated Site Miner at least 30 days before submission, and apply by January 15, April 15, July 15, or October 15.
