About this program

The Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), a collaboration between TEDCO, the State of Maryland, and five qualifying universities, supports commercialization of university research through technology validation, market assessment, and startup formation. Funding totals up to $430,000, including Technology Assessment grants of up to $130,000 for sole applicants or $180,000 for joint applications and Company Formation investments of up to $300,000. Full-time faculty at the five qualifying universities may apply for Technology Assessment grants, while Maryland-based startups with recently licensed university technology may apply for Company Formation funding. Applicants must commercialize university-owned, disclosed, and appropriately protected intellectual property, engage a designated Site Miner at least 30 days before submission, and apply by quarterly deadlines of January 15, April 15, July 15, or October 15.
