Maryland Innovation Initiative

About this program

The Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), a collaboration between TEDCO, the State of Maryland, and five qualifying universities, supports commercialization of university-developed technologies through technology validation, market assessment, and company formation. Funding totals up to $430,000, including up to $130,000 for Technology Assessment and up to $300,000 for Company Formation. Full-time faculty at Johns Hopkins, Morgan State, and the Universities of Maryland are eligible for Technology Assessment grants, while Maryland-based startups licensed university technology within the past 12 months may seek Company Formation funding. Applicants must have university-owned technology disclosed to a technology transfer office with appropriate intellectual property protection, engage a Site Miner at least 30 days before submission, and apply by quarterly deadlines of January 15, April 15, July 15, or October 15.
