About this program

The Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), a collaboration between TEDCO, the State of Maryland, and five qualifying universities, supports commercialization of university-developed technologies through technology validation, market assessment, and startup formation. Funding totals up to $430,000, including Technology Assessment grants of up to $130,000 for sole applicants or $180,000 for joint applications and Company Formation investments of up to $300,000. Full-time faculty at Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland campuses may apply for Technology Assessment funding, while Maryland-based startups with recently licensed qualifying-university technology may apply for Company Formation funding. Applicants must have university-owned technology disclosed to the technology transfer office with appropriate intellectual property protection, engage a Site Miner at least 30 days before submission, and apply by January 15, April 15, July 15, or October 15.
