Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award

NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute administers the Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award, a $15,000 endowed grant to support a promising early-career nonfiction journalist reporting a story that illuminates the human condition. Eligible projects include longform print pieces and substantial audio projects (over 20 minutes); funds may cover travel or other reporting expenses but are not restricted solely to travel. The award excludes reporting on armed conflicts where journalists are already imperiled and projects that are primarily investigatory. Proposals are reviewed by NYU journalism faculty and outside writers/editors, finalists interview online, and the winner normally receives visiting scholar privileges at NYU, including library access (applications submitted via Submittable).
