Minnesota State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

About this program

The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care offers the Minnesota State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) to improve access to outpatient primary care in underserved Minnesota communities. The program provides loan repayment assistance to eligible providers who serve at approved sites in rural or urban federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs); the 2026/2027 application cycle runs July 9–September 9, 2026. Eligible professionals include OB/GYNs, women’s health nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, dental therapists, registered dental hygienists, and general or pediatric dentists. Applicants must commit to practicing primary care full- or part-time at an approved HPSA site for a minimum of two years.
