Municipal Agriculture and Farmland Protection Planning Grants

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets offers grants to support the development of local farmland protection plans in municipalities across the state. This funding aims to safeguard agricultural lands by encouraging municipalities to create zoning and land use regulations that do not hinder farm operations. Municipalities can receive up to $25,000 or 75% of the plan development cost, whichever is lower, and applications are accepted continuously. To be eligible, municipalities must not have previously prepared an agricultural and farmland protection plan and must provide a local share of funding, with at least 20% in cash and a maximum of 80% in in-kind services.
