About this program
The National Academy of Sciences' NAS Prize in Food and Agriculture Sciences recognizes a mid‑career scientist at a U.S. institution who has made an extraordinary contribution to agriculture or to understanding the biology of species fundamentally important to food production; the recipient receives a medal and $100,000. Eligible areas include plant and animal sciences, microbiology, nutrition and food science, soil science, entomology, veterinary medicine, and agricultural economics. Applicants must be based at a U.S. institution and be within 20 years of completing their PhD (mid‑career); nominations for the 2027 award are due by October 5, 2026.
