National Theatre Company Grants

About this program

The American Theatre Wing’s National Theatre Company Grants will award five $100,000 grants annually to support visionary projects that present new work by living American playwrights, including world premieres, tours, audience-development initiatives, community outreach, and educational or low-cost ticket programs. Theatre companies of all budget sizes may apply, but the primary applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit theatre—or fiscally sponsored organization—based outside New York City. Applicants must demonstrate consistent and diverse programming, appropriate artist compensation, legal production rights, organizational capacity, and a detailed project budget for work taking place in fall 2027 or spring 2028. The program does not support children’s theatre, new musicals, projects by international playwrights, general operating support, or standard season programming; applications are due September 4, 2026.
