Nieman Fellowships at Harvard

About this program

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard offers year‑long Nieman Fellowships that enable mid‑career journalists to spend an academic year at Harvard pursuing individualized study to deepen journalistic skills, leadership, and innovation. Applicants must be working journalists with at least five years of full‑time media experience and complete an online application including a personal statement (up to 1,000 words), a study proposal (up to 500 words), a short professional profile and proposal summary, recent work samples formatted per medium, and three confidential recommendation letters (two professional associates and an immediate supervisor). Work‑sample specifications vary by medium and non‑English materials require English summaries; use of AI is limited to minor editing and must be disclosed. Applications for the next cycle open in early October, with deadlines of December 1 for international applicants and January 31 for U.S. applicants (the 2026–27 cycle is closed).
