About this program
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture offers a competitive grant program to support producers in implementing agricultural practices that reduce nitrate-nitrogen leaching into groundwater. This pilot program, funded by the 2023 Legislative Session, provides financial assistance to eligible producers operating crop land within designated Level 2 Drinking Water Supply Management Areas (DWSMAs).
To be considered, applicants must choose and implement one or more agricultural practices from a provided list of initiatives aimed at reducing nitrate in groundwater. Successful applicants will receive up to $5,000 per year for a maximum of three years, with additional conservation programs potentially available through local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD).
