About this program

The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) seeks cooperative research proposals addressing fishery management and marine ecosystem information needs across the North Pacific relevant to Alaska, with topics including oceanography and productivity, fishes and invertebrates, marine birds and mammals, human dimensions, and interdisciplinary studies. Only Flex Grants are accepted, capped at $150,000 (USD) for a maximum 12-month period with no extensions; projects must be completed by 31 December 2027, decisions will be announced May and October 2026, and proposals are submitted via the NPRB proposal dashboard. Most federal, state, private, and foreign organizations are eligible, but the applicant must be a single lead organization (partners as subcontracts) with a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and active SAM.gov registration prior to award. Administrative requirements include NICRA documentation for indirect costs over 15% (otherwise a 15% indirect rate may be requested), Single Audit documentation if applicable, routine reporting and invoicing, and restrictions such as prohibition on funding Russian nationals.
