NZMS Award for Teaching Excellence

About this program

The New Zealand Mathematical Society's NZMS Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes outstanding mathematics teaching in the New Zealand tertiary sector, is awarded annually at the NZMS Colloquium (awardee presents and contributes a classroom note), and the current call closes 31 August 2026. Eligible applicants must be current NZMS members with at least 12 months consecutive membership prior to the closing date, reside in New Zealand, have taught mathematics at one or more New Zealand tertiary institutions in a permanent, fixed‑term or sessional appointment (any fraction), demonstrate sustained excellent teaching for at least three years, and must not have previously won the award. Applications (self‑nomination) must include a cover sheet, a proposed citation (≤100 words), a statement addressing the selection criteria (≤2 A4 pages), a CV (≤4 A4 pages) and two referee letters (≤1 A4 page each, one from a referee in a relevant formal role); documents should be A4 with ≥2 cm margins and 11‑point font and submitted as one PDF or Word file (references may be separate) by email to NZMS President Bernd Krauskopf by 31 August 2026.
