NZMS Early Career Research Award

About this program

The New Zealand Mathematical Society’s NZMS Early Career Research Award recognises excellent mathematical research by early-career New Zealand mathematicians and aims to foster local mathematical research; the award comprises a certificate and citation (no monetary prize). Applicants must be within ten years of PhD confirmation by the 31 August 2026 deadline (adjustments possible for career breaks or reduced workload), have resided in New Zealand for two of the previous three years, be current NZMS members, and may self-nominate (award may be received only once). Nominations must include name and affiliation, research area statement, brief CV (distinctions, supervised students, grants, full publications list), PDFs of three best papers (published or in press) with clear statements of contribution for joint work, a 40-word citation, and two referees (international referees recommended; referees should avoid conflicts). Submit nominations by email to NZMS President Bernd Krauskopf by 31 August 2026; a presidentially appointed judging panel will recommend the recipient, who will be announced and presented at the New Zealand Mathematics Colloquium Dinner in December.
