Olivia James Traveling Fellowship

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America’s Olivia James Traveling Fellowship provides up to $26,000 to support travel and research conducted between July 1 of the award year and June 30 of the following year, with preference for projects of at least six months located primarily in Greece, Cyprus, the Aegean Islands, Sicily, southern Italy, Asia Minor (Turkey), or Mesopotamia; funds cannot be used for field excavation, institutional indirect costs, or overhead. Applications are due November 1, 2026, with awards announced by March 1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and current AIA Graduate or Professional members; preference is given to those engaged in dissertation research or within five years of receiving a PhD, recipients may not hold other major fellowships during the award period, and awardees must submit a post‑fellowship report and are expected to submit an abstract for possible presentation at the AIA Annual Meeting.
