About this program
Global Fishing Watch’s Open Ocean Research Grants Program supports researchers worldwide using publicly available data on human activity at sea to advance ocean governance, strengthen core technologies, and expand open datasets. For 2026, awards provide up to US$10,000 for individual applicants and US$20,000 for groups. Applicants must submit a letter of intent by May 10, 2026; only those selected at the LOI stage will be invited to submit a full proposal by August 31.
