Open Spaces Program

About this program

The Kenneth Rainin Foundation’s Open Spaces Program supports artist-driven, temporary public art projects that engage communities in San Francisco and Oakland through Development Support grants of $15,000–$20,000 or Production Support grants of $100,000–$175,000. Funding supports project development or implementation during the January 2027–December 2028 grant period, with production projects requiring at least one month of public accessibility. Bay Area artists or collectives must apply with a Bay Area nonprofit partner or fiscal sponsor, while Bay Area nonprofits must partner with an artist or collective; applicants must demonstrate project-management, community-engagement, and technical capacity. Stage One applications are due June 10, 2026, and eligible projects must include authentic partnerships, community engagement, and sites in San Francisco and/or Oakland.
