About this program
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) administers the Directed Research and Development (ODRD) program to fund ORAU-led, collaborative R&D projects that pair ORAU subject-matter experts with faculty at member universities to develop or advance scientific and technical capabilities. Proposals are due in June with awards announced in August and funded projects following an October 1–September 30 project year; note the program was paused for FY26 and is expected to reopen for FY27. Eligibility is limited to ORAU member universities in good standing and proposals must be submitted by an ORAU staff member; interested institutions should contact their ORAU councilor or email university.partnerships@orau.org to be matched with an ORAU researcher.
